Berkeley Lab’s Facilities Division has an opening for a Facilities Maintenance Planner. In this role you will organize and assess maintenance work activities and coordinate all necessary job walkdowns, hazard evaluations, permits, materials, equipment, and work order documentation necessary to perform maintenance activities. You will interface with Facility Area Managers, Engineering, EHS, Maintenance supervisors, crafts, and other organizations/disciplines as necessary to thoroughly plan work activities and ensure that all applicable standards, contract requirements, and laboratory policies and procedures are applied. You are responsible for ensuring that work control documents are developed to support safe, effective, efficient, and compliant execution of work consistent with established work practices.

What You Will Do:
• Plan and coordinate maintenance work activities using the LBNL Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Conduct coordinated walkdowns of work scope with the respective work leads, EHS, Facility Area Manager(s) and others as necessary to ensure scope of work is clearly understood, boundaries of the work are identified, both location based and activity based hazards are identified, permits are obtained, and materials, equipment, and manpower needs are identified.
• Prepare work control documents, including a sequence of operations, that provide clear and comprehensive direction to the performing crafts and ensures that the work can be performed safely.
• Evaluate preventive maintenance activities and job plans; provide technical input and advice to continuously improve the safety of work execution, the accuracy of resource estimates, and continuous improvement in operations.
• Develop and/or provide technical input to new maintenance procedures to ensure compliance with national codes and regulations.
• Assist in the population of the Master Equipment List by ensuring that assets are captured in the CMMS and labeled in the field as maintenance work is planned and executed.
• Evaluate feedback provided by the crafts and supervision on completed preventive maintenance work orders and disposition the feedback to ensure that the issues are addressed and revise the PM work orders accordingly.
• Assist in the continuous improvement of the CMMS System to establish and maintain the functionality that supports Facilities asset information and associated maintenance history.
• Review completed PMs to ensure work is completed as planned. Evaluate feedback provided in completed PMs and solicit input from appropriate disciplines to address issues and revise PMs as appropriate.
• Comply with Lab implementation of Department of Energy (DOE) health and safety policies and other applicable Federal, State, and local fire, health, safety, emergency-preparedness, pollution-prevention, and environmental protection policies.
• Perform all work safely and be particularly aware of potentially hazardous operations or conditions.

What Is Required:
• A minimum of 4 years experience in performing maintenance to enable effective planning of resources, materials and safe methods involved in proposed facilities maintenance activities; Must possess diverse experience in performing maintenance to enable effective planning of resources, materials and safe methods involved in proposed facilities maintenance activities.
• Must possess knowledge and understanding of the National codes and standards for construction and maintenance work, and have experience performing work in a DOE or highly regulated environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills are required to effectively coordinate with FAMs, craft supervision/leads, project managers, engineering, EHS, and others to thoroughly plan maintenance activities and ensure safety is fully integrated into work control documents.
• Experience and hands-on knowledge of skilled-craft work.
• Experience in developing and evaluating procedures, analyzing work requirements, and developing effective and collaborative solutions applying advanced technological skills and knowledge.
• Demonstrated success in the implementation of work plans, strategies, and directives in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
• Knowledge of the functionality of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or the ability to learn within 4 months of assuming the position. Excellent customer service skills and ability to promote customer relations through partnering with customers and colleagues.

• This is a full-time career appointment.
• Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
