Senior Building Inspector

The Resource Management Agency (RMA) seeks candidates for Senior Building Inspector to perform as lead worker for other inspectors and conduct more complex inspections and investigations such as large, multi-level commercial and industrial construction projects and new subdivisions. The ideal candidate will possess integrity; flexibility and adaptability; the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; strong oral and written communication skills; an ability to relate well to the public, management, and employees at all levels; exemplify an enthusiastic, resourceful, and effective customer service attitude; and demonstrate good judgment.

Examples of Duties:
Paramount duties include: •Inspects more complex buildings, structures, and grading operations to ensure that the construction, alteration, or maintenance work being performed complies with the approved plans or specification and applicable laws, codes, and ordinances.
•Assigns and monitors inspections for lower level inspectors.
•Provides information to contractors, architects, craftsman, and the public regarding requirements of codes and ordinances at the counter or at public meetings.
•Prepares and processes forms and records on the enforcement activities related to code violations, including the issuance of stop work notices.
•Prepares detailed reports of inspections and completed work or the findings of an investigation.
•Provides general assistance to homeowners, builders, code compliance staff, etc., regarding required action to correct a violation.
•Assists in the review of routine construction plans for buildings, structures, equipment installations, repairs, replacements, and alterations for conformance to the applicable codes and ordinances.
•Assists in the development, revision, and interpretation of the provisions of the codes and ordinances, and in the planning and evaluation of the inspection program, and provides related training to staff.

Examples of Experience/Education/Training:

Any combination of training, education, and/or experience which provides for the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

Successful completion of vocational/technical training program associated with building technology and the application of building codes and regulations; and

Three years' experience working as a Building Inspector in a public agency that includes inspecting all phases of building construction.

In addition, a background in construction and a certification as a Commercial Combination Inspector is desirable.
